Paediatric Chiropractor Mt Eliza
– Infant & Child Chiropractic Care
Mt Eliza Family Chiropractic Clinic has been offering Chiropractic care for children and babies for over 35 years to the Mt. Eliza, Frankston, Mornington, Somerville, and Baxter communities.
The practice of paediatrics within the chiropractic profession, is based on the principle that children are unique individuals undergoing the process of human development and not merely ‘little adults’. A paediatric chiropractor is a clinician capable of delivering gentle chiropractic care to a child, observing at all times the clinical parameters which would require that child to be referred to other health professionals where necessary.
How can Chiropractic Care Help Infants and Children?
Our chiropractors can treat a number of concerns experienced by babies and children. Some of the conditions we treat include:
Poor Posture
Statistics say that 73% of parents are concerned about their child’s posture, especially with increased use of phones and tablets leading to slouching and potential spine and neck issues.
Mt. Eliza Family Chiropractic employs a technology based postural assessment system which detects even the most subtle postural deviations, generates a report with your child’s individual postural images, and then analyses the data relating the postural distortions to individual spinal biomechanics. We can use this assessment to tailor an individual care plan and track your child’s progress and improvement over time.
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is usually first seen in children between the ages of 10 and 15. However, it can occur in younger children aged 3 to 10 years (juvenile scoliosis) and in babies (infantile scoliosis). The effects of scoliosis can include poor posture, shoulder humping, muscle weakness as well as spinal pain and can be a more serious condition in children because it can rapidly progress as the child grows. Scoliosis can be managed by a children’s chiropractor in a variety of different ways to help alleviate pain and restore normal functionality.
Traumatic Birth Syndrome
Traumatic Birth Syndrome is a condition which describes the potential damage to an infants spine which may result from the birth process. This condition has been well documented in the medical research and can lead to all types of health problems. Our chiropractors can perform a thorough orthopaedic and neurological assessment of your child to identify and treat any potential issues.
Plagiocephaly
Deformational Plagiocephaly is a condition characterised by a flat spot on the back or one side of an infants head caused by uneven pressure on the skull which may lead to developmental delays.
Our chiropractors can give you advice and tips on your baby’s positioning during sleep or when laid down, as well as explaining the options available to you to manage the condition,
including the implementation of a specifically designed TinyYears pillow designed and created by Dr Glenn Maginness.
Neurological Developmental Assessment
Neurological Developmental Screening Tests are used to determine which parts of a child’s brain are functioning at the expected level for his/her age and/or which parts of the child’s brain are not functioning at the expected level. The results will provide us with insight as to whether your child may benefit from treatment and if so what type of treatment would be best suited.
Our chiropractors are trained in the field of paediatric neurological assessment and management including the integration of retained primitive reflexes and vestibular system support
