What is Scoliosis?
Effects of Scoliosis
Scoliosis is usually first seen in children between the ages of 10 and 15. However, it can occur in younger children aged 3 to 10 years (juvenile scoliosis) and in babies (infantile scoliosis). The effects of scoliosis can include poor posture, shoulder humping, muscle weakness as well as spinal pain. In rare cases scoliosis can lead to heart and lung problems. If scoliosis is detected and treated early, patients can avoid these symptoms in many cases. If left untreated, scoliosis can sometimes progress to where surgery is required.
Chiropractic Treatment of Scoliosis
Scoliosis can be managed by your chiropractor in a variety of different ways to help alleviate pain and restore normal functionality.
If you are unsure whether your child is suffering with scoliosis please contact our practice for an appointment. One of our experienced chiropractors will conduct a thorough spinal examination specifically looking for the presence of scoliosis. We use a specially designed instrument known as a ‘scoliometer’ to accurately determine firstly whether a scoliosis is present, and secondly, should a scoliosis be detected, this device is used to measure the degree of the curve.
Our chiropractors have a combined experience of over 100 years in chiropractic. We also have the only true paediatric chiropractor on the Mornington Peninsula. With such a huge volume of experience on hand you can feel sure that your child is in the right place.
