Paediatric Chiropractor Sandhurst – Infant & Child Chiropractic Care

paediatric chiro [suburb]For more than 35 years, Mt Eliza Family Chiropractic Clinic has provided Chiropractic care for children and babies to the Sandhurst community.

Paediatrics in the chiropractic profession is founded on the idea that children are distinct individuals going through the stages of development, not simply ‘small adults’. A paediatric chiropractor provides gentle care to children while always adhering to clinical guidelines that would indicate a referral to other healthcare professionals if needed.

How Chiropractic Care Can Assist Infants and Children

Our chiropractors address a variety of concerns experienced by babies and children. Some of the conditions we manage include:

Poor Posture

According to statistics, 73% of parents are concerned about their child’s posture, with the rise in phone and tablet use contributing to slouching and potential issues with the spine and neck.

At Mt. Eliza Family Chiropractic, we utilise a technology-based postural assessment system that detects even minor postural deviations, generates a report with your child’s individual postural images, and analyses the data to relate the distortions to spinal biomechanics. This enables us to develop a customised care plan and track your child’s progress and improvements over time.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is most commonly observed in children aged 10 to 15, but it can also appear in younger children between the ages of 3 and 10 (juvenile scoliosis) and even in infants (infantile scoliosis). Its effects may include poor posture, shoulder humping, muscle weakness, and spinal pain, and it can be a more serious condition in children as it may quickly progress during growth spurts. A children’s chiropractor can manage scoliosis in several ways to help reduce pain and restore proper function.

Traumatic Birth Syndrome

Traumatic Birth Syndrome refers to the potential spinal damage that may occur in an infant as a result of the birth process. This condition is well-documented in medical research and can contribute to various health issues. Our chiropractors can conduct a comprehensive orthopaedic and neurological evaluation of your child to identify and address any possible concerns.

Plagiocephaly

Deformational Plagiocephaly is a condition where uneven pressure on an infant’s skull causes a flat spot on the back or one side of the head, potentially leading to developmental delays.

Our chiropractors are able to offer advice on your baby’s sleep positioning and how to lay them down, while also explaining the management options available, such as using the TinyYears pillow, which was designed by Dr Glenn Maginness.

Neurological Developmental Assessment

Neurological Developmental Screening Tests assess which areas of a child’s brain are functioning at the expected level for their age and/or which areas may not be. These results give us valuable information about whether your child could benefit from treatment and, if so, which type of treatment would be most appropriate.

Our chiropractors are qualified in paediatric neurological assessment and management, with expertise in integrating retained primitive reflexes and providing vestibular system support.
